Costa Rica: Did you know?                                                

  • The Carib native Americans, who Christopher Columbus meet when he arrived in Costa Rica in 1521, wore golden bands in their noses and ears. They inspired the Spaniard Gil Gonzalez Davila to name the country Costa Rica, or Rich Coast.


  • Costa Rica has four volcanoes and two of them are active and are located near the capital of San José in the center of the country. One of the volcanoes, Irazu, erupted in 1963-65 and caused quite a bit of destruction.


  • Costa Rican’s call themselves Ticos in place of the more formal Costarricenses.
