Pre-Assignment Services
First Impressions
Assignees’ first impressions of a new host country have a significant impact on their decision to accept an assignment and on their attitudes as they prepare for the transition. IOR’s Destination Services Consultants are true "ambassadors" of the cities in which they live. Our consultants act as advocates for our clients by
helping employees feel at home in their new location. At the same time, they listen to the needs of the employee and family so they can get a head start on planning for a smooth and rewarding relocation.
Area Orientation
IOR’s Destination Services Consultants pride themselves on designing the ideal area tour of the new international location. They familiarize the expatriate and family with the local area based on their specific needs. Tours may include: an introduction to various communities; points of interest; housing styles; transportation options; and other areas of interest identified by the assignee before or during the trip.
Temporary Housing
Many assignees need temporary living arrangements before settling into their new home abroad. IOR works with our clients’ preferred suppliers of temporary housing. When clients do not have an established relationship with a housing provider, we will make recommendations of high-quality temporary housing in the home country and host country.
Home Finding
Looking for a new home is usually an exciting and emotional time for expatriates. IOR’s local DS Consultants around the globe work to ensure that families can focus on their expatriate housing needs rather than on the logistical and legal processes that are unique to the new destination. Our consultants know that a big part of their job is to balance the needs of the expatriates with the housing guidelines and budget provided by their company. With this information in mind, consultants develop a home-search agenda offering a variety of housing options that address company and assignee requirements.
Once the consultant works with the family on behalf of the client to negotiate the lease, the next step is to assist the family in creating a property inventory, set up utilities, and source furniture and appliances as needed. IOR’s Destination Services Consultants are in touch with the assignee and family throughout the entire process.
School Research and Tours
Schools often determine where a family will live and may be the first decision an assignee needs to make. IOR’s Consultants work closely with families to research suitable options, check availability and registration requirements, schedule interviews and assist with enrollment. Families need to consider whether they want their children to attend local schools or international schools. They often need to arrange for records to be transferred and set up interviews with the school administration. Consultants can arrange school tours and assist with communication between the school and the assignees when they are in the new country, or at home preparing for the assignment. IOR’s consultants work closely with the family on behalf of the client. In cases of special needs, IOR may call upon a partner specialist to help with more challenging school issues.
