Recent Webinar: Mergers & Acquisitions - Cultural Integration for Global Organizations
Presented by: IOR Global Services, Mercer & Eclosion
May 19, 25 & 27, 2010
A recent Mercer study reveals that cultural barriers were identified as the primary reason most M&A deals fail to deliver the value promised. In today’s challenging economic climate, acquisitive organizations are keen to extract the expected value for each M&A transaction. To address these issues Mercer, IOR Global Services and Eclosion come together to offer a joint webinar series. This series will focus on all phases of a deal: pre-deal cultural due diligence, integration-phase management of change, and post-acquisition cultural integration/adaptation.
- Cultural Due Diligence
- Managing Change
- Successful Post Merger Cultural Integration
Cultural Due Diligence - Eclosion – Wednesday, 19 May, 2010: Dr. Peter Bürgi and James Rowe focus on cultural components during the due diligence process. This session illustrates how culture can be seen as an important tacit part of organizational capital, describes what drives cultural differences in organizations, offers means of analyzing corporate culture and explains how different cultures can affect business integration and performance.
Managing Change – Mercer – Tuesday, 25 May, 2010: During the integration phase, change management is key. Mercer’s David King leads this session which will address how to approach, analyze and practically manage culture to change behavior and drive deal value. The session will apply a practical framework and process for managing the culture-related risks, explaining how to identify and prioritize culture change drivers and plan for action.
Successful Post-Merger Cultural Integration – IOR Global Services – Thursday, 27 May, 2010: Dr. Douglas Stuart and Dr. Mark Frederick of IOR Global Services present this final session. Most companies engaging in M&A activity overlook the importance of cultural integration for a successful merger. Newly merged companies risk alienating and losing talent without an effective plan for cultural integration. This session will cover key considerations and useful assessment tools for managing and communicating company culture.
Webinar Logistics: The course will be delivered on-line over a two week period at 12:00 noon EDT beginning May 19, 2010. Each session will be 90 minutes in length; all will be archived for future reference. The technology platform allows in-time audience participation through Q&A and surveys. Recertification credits have been approved through ERC (CRP), and are pending for HRCI (PHR, SPHR, GPHR) and CERC. Enrollment fee is $175 per- person for the entire series. Fee includes live session, download of slides, access to archived sessions and course completion certificate.

What does intercultural competence have to do with adult development, and why does it matter?
SIETAR USA Annual Conference
Presenter: Douglas Stuart, Ph.D., IOR Director of Training
April 14, 2010 – Spokane, Washington
Interesting parallels between the worldviews of Robert Kegan’s Stages of Adult Development and of Milton Bennett’s Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity suggest that people preparing to encounter cultural difference may have different concerns and needs according to their level of development, and that intercultural educators and trainers should consider these differences in their program design, as well as in their understanding of what we mean by “intercultural competence.” For more information.

In this session, trainers and consultants will examine guidelines and formats for developing critical incidents and work together to turn their stories into program materials. The collection from the session will be shared with the group. For more information.
