Improving Interview Skills Across Cultures

Challenge: A major agribusiness company’s goal is to expand its workforce diversity as it hires new employees.  However, candidates with excellent credentials from a variety of non-U.S. cultures were too frequently eliminated during the interviewing process.

IOR Program Solution: IOR was asked to review the company’s policy handbook.  We determined that there was a bias towards candidates from the company’s home culture.  IOR recommended changes to the policy handbook and created a customized program, ‘Interviewing Skills Across Cultures’ whereby the interview team practiced interviewing techniques, adopted for global context, that were equally effective across the global cultural spectrum.

Results: Greater numbers of qualified candidates from non-U.S. cultures will be offered positions in order to help strengthen the professional expertise of the company.
