Japan: Dress

  • Japan is cutting edge when it comes to modern fashion trends. Famous fashion designers who’ve had international success include Kenzo Takada and Junya Watanabe.

  • Traditional Japanese dress (below) may be worn on special events.

  • Important etiquette to know: In many homes, temples and public places, shoes should be removed. Sometimes “indoor only” slippers are provided.

  • When wearing a kimono (which literally means “thing to wear”), it is important to fold it left over right instead of the reverse—which is reserved for dressing the dead at a burials.
