  • The equator passes through northern Brazil and runs adjacent to the Amazon River.
  • Because of its equatorial location and low elevation, the climate in the Amazon region consists of high temperatures and substantial rainfall.

North

A tropical wet climate characterizes the area with abundant rainfall and little to no dry season.

Central

Rainfall is more seasonal.

Northeast Interior

Seasonal rainfall is more typical with, at times, severe drought periods.

Southeast

More mild climate because of the elevation, with an average temperature of 18°C (64°F) in the winter.

South

Subtropical conditions, with an average temperatures of 20°C (68°F). The region is also subject to frost, which occurs on average 10 days a year and sometimes damages crops. There are occasional snowfalls in the higher altitude areas.
